Doctrine and Covenants 93:1

D&C 93:Verily, thus saith the Lord: It shall come to pass that every soul who aforsaketh his bsins and cometh unto me, and ccalleth on my name, and dobeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall esee my fface and gknow that I am

I love this verse but I sat with it for a little bit because I had a question about it and I actually got an answer when I sat with it and pondered it a while. I love the answer and I wanted to share it here with you.

Let’s start with the list.

Forsake sins

come unto me

call on my name

obey my voice

Keep my commandments

Everyone who does thos things will be able to see His face and know that He is.

I love taking a verse apart like this and really thinking about it. But my question was what is the difference between Obey my voice and keep my commandments. Those things sound very similar. But then why would it be written like that if they are exactly the same thing.

So I sat with it a while.

I pondered.

I said a short prayer asking Heavenly Father to teach me.

And I had a bit of inspiration and it was lovely.

Here it is.

Keep my commandments – the commandments from God are public. They are written. They are universal. Love God and love your neighbor in a nutshell. Everybody gets the same commandments.

Obey my voice – this is personal. Sometimes when we are praying or even just riding along in the car we will get a thought about someone and feel like we should call them or serve them in some way. Sometimes that thought sounds like a voice which is telling you something specific to do. Sometimes we are praying for our family and we get some inspiration about something we can improve in our home or with our children. Obey His Voice is just for us.

I want to talk about this just really quick. I heard someone say once (and of course I can’t find the quote now) that you have a thought to do something that is good and possitive and kind then 99% of the time it is from God.

Alma 5:40 says For I say unto you that whatsoever is agood cometh from God, and whatsoever is bevil cometh from the devil.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the afruit of the bSpirit is clovedjoyepeaceflongsufferingggentleness, goodness, hfaith, Meeknessbtemperance: against such there is no law.

All good things come from God so go and do the things that come to your mind and don;t put them off. I have regreted several times putting off a prompting to help someone. And just one final thing. One of the most awesome things about doing the thing you are inspired to do right away without worry or question is that your relationship with Heavenly Father is strengthened every time. And that relationship is defineitely something that we want to make strong.

Anyway, just a short bit tonight but I was excited to be taught that little tidbit by the Spirit today and wanted to share it. with you.
